SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Santino is continuously working to make the collection more sustainable. New items are produced according to the GOTS, GRS, RCS, or OCS standards and are provided with the appropriate certifications. Existing products are gradually replaced by more sustainable alternatives with a higher proportion of recycled materials, while maintaining the quality you have come to expect from us. In this way, we not only reduce our ecological footprint but also offer clothing that lasts longer.
Our sustainable collections are a responsible choice and retain the familiar look and feel of Santino. We use only fibers based on natural raw materials or recycled materials, such as organic cotton, bamboo, and yarns made from recycled polyester.
ORGANIC COTTON
In the cultivation of organic cotton, no pesticides are used; instead, natural crop protection methods, such as insects, are applied. The soil is fertilized with natural waste to prevent pollution of farmland and water. By alternating cotton cultivation with other crops, such as grains and legumes (crop rotation), soil depletion is avoided.
Santino clothing containing organic cotton is certified according to GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OCS (Organic Cotton Standard).
- The GOTS label guarantees that at least 70% of the cotton is organically grown without harmful pesticides and that production is carried out in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner. The entire cultivation and production process is traceable back to the cotton plantation.
- Products made with less than 70% organic cotton are certified according to OCS. This certificate ensures that the exact proportion of organic cotton in the product is tracked transparently and accurately – from the plantation to the finished product. Since these items contain a lower percentage of organic cotton than the 70% required for GOTS, they cannot be offered under the GOTS label. With OCS certification, we can still demonstrate that organic cotton has indeed been used and properly verified.
BAMBOO
Bamboo grows extremely fast, requires little water, and needs no artificial fertilizer. During growth, the bamboo plant absorbs large amounts of greenhouse gases and also helps prevent erosion. Like cotton, hemp, and linen, it is a renewable resource and biodegradable. Bamboo fibers are exceptionally strong, giving clothing a long lifespan. Fabric made from bamboo absorbs 60% more moisture than cotton, is anti-static, soft, breathable, durable, wrinkle-resistant, shape-retaining, and filters harmful UV rays. Another unique property of bamboo is its natural antibacterial quality, which keeps clothing smelling fresh. People with sensitive skin or allergies can wear bamboo clothing with confidence. Beautiful and sustainable material, ideal for sports or work!
YARNS MADE FROM RECYCLED POLYESTER
In addition to organic cotton, Santino also uses recycled polyester yarn, made from, among other things, recycled PET bottles, old clothing, or textile waste. Used PET bottles are collected through a mechanical process and processed into flakes. These flakes are then broken down into small chips and converted into polyester fibers, which are spun into yarn. The entire production process results in a 100% certified product. Fabrics, both knitted and woven, made from recycled polyester yarn are not only functional and comfortable but also sustainable. In this way, we contribute to a circular textile chain and reduce our ecological footprint.
Through the use of recycled polyester and the associated certifications GRS (Global Recycle Standard) and RCS (Recycled Claim Standard), Santino ensures the traceability of the recycled material in our products. The GRS label also monitors the social, ecological, and chemical impact of production. A GRS label may only be used if at least 50% of the fabric consists of recycled material.
